Abstract

This contribution deals with the issue of comparing legal concepts of different legal systems in the field of criminal law, and aims to show how the preliminary reconstruction of conceptual relations within the systems under analysis is crucial to comparison, mainly in establishing the degree of conceptual equivalence—an aspect that is relevant to both legal professionals and translators of legal texts. Due to that, the study focuses on the area of criminal offences against property, as defined in two different legal systems: the Italian and the Czech one. Conceptual relations are implicitly present in texts, which are concrete evidence of the way in which professionals organize their knowledge. Maintaining a knowledge driven approach, the study proposes a comparison - oriented method of reconstruction of conceptual relationships.
